AN ON-GOING SERIES of short stories and poems for in-class use —and to download and listen to at home.
• • Stories by: Kate Chopin, Richmal Compton, Stephen Crane, Anton Chekhov, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Nikolai Gogol, The Brothers Grimm, Bret Harte, James Joyce, Jack London, H. P. Lovecraft, Guy de Maupassant, Edgar Allen Poe, Leo Tolstoy, and others...
• • Poems by: Li Bai, Anne Bradstreet, Lewis Carroll, E. E. Cummings, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Robert Frost, John Masefield, Edgar Allan Poe, Li Po, Edgar Allen Poe, Ezra Pound, Carl Sandburg, William Shakespeare, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Henry David Thoreau, William Carlos Williams, Walt Whitman, and others...
• These stories and poems are part of the curriculum for this teacher's 12th grade English classes during the school year 2008-2009. Other teachers and students are invited to use them as well. They are excellent for extra-credit homework assignments, for response by worksheet, associated questions, and book and audiobook reviews. Classroom textbooks: Holt, Rinehart Winston's World Literature, EMCParadigm's Literature and the Language Arts, Globe Fearon's Literature, Green Level, and other textbooks used at a specific high school. Recordings of texts/translations found in these textbooks archived here are solely from public domain sources and may differ slightly from the modern text. Translators may differ from those in the specific textbooks. Certain publishers offer abridged/adapted versions of original texts; the texts used here are unabridged; all texts are in their complete, originally published form.
• Some stories/poems may have mature or murderous themes —none contain explicit language. All texts are available on Gutenberg.org, WikiSource.org, Archive.org, GoogleBooks and other public domain providers. Please listen to a sound file or read the text before making recommendations.
• Note on the length of the recordings: At the current recording quality, a file size of 1.0M (Megabyte) is approximately 1 minute in length —so, a file size of 22.7M is approximately 23 minutes, a file of 2.1M is just over 2 minutes, a file of 887K (Kilobytes) is a little less than 1 minute, and so on...
